Gender pay gap

The gender pay gap is the difference between average female earnings and male earnings, where female earnings are expressed as a % of male earnings. Average earnings are frequently measured in terms of ‘median’ average, although figures for ‘mean’ averages can be also be measured. Using the mean will tend to give a higher pay gap as very high earnings for some males employees will skew the average significsantly towards males.
