Crypto Market Making Program: How a Liquid Market Is Formed
A crypto market making program creates a working environment for companies that professionally maintain liquidity for trading pairs. These can be specialized market makers, algorithmic trading firms, and other participants with their own trading infrastructure. They constantly submit orders and help shape a market where there is available volume between buyers and sellers. This model is especially relevant for a platform with a large number of assets. A popular pair can naturally attract sufficient orders. In a less active market, the situation is often different.
What happens when liquidity is low
Let's say the best buy order for a token is at 2.10 USDT, and the next sell order is at 2.18 USDT. There remains a noticeable gap between them. If there are few large orders in the order book, the execution of a large order can affect several price levels at once. A crypto market maker operates precisely with this structure. Its algorithms generate two-way quotes and regularly update them in response to market changes. At the same time, the market maker does not set the "correct" price of the token. The price continues to be determined by the market. Their job is to provide orders that are available to other participants.
Why a separate program is needed
A cryptocurrency market making program sets the rules for interaction between the platform and the liquidity provider. It may include criteria for trading volume, spread, order book depth, and quotation duration. This is important for a simple reason. A large turnover, by itself, does not guarantee a high-quality market. It is possible to conduct a significant volume of transactions, but still have a wide spread and insufficient depth. Therefore, the program conditions may take into account the quality of the liquidity market making, not just the final turnover.
What is required of the infrastructure
A market making crypto exchange must provide a technical environment for automated operations. Manually updating thousands of orders within a day is impossible. This requires APIs, which allow trading systems to receive market data, create orders, and cancel them. Query limits are also important. The algorithm can constantly react to changes in the order book, so it requires high connection bandwidth. In some scenarios, minimal data transfer latency is also crucial. The market maker requires its own control system. It monitors available balances, open orders, and the distribution of assets between markets.
Why are the parameters constantly changing?
Managing liquidity isn't limited to just setting up the algorithm. During quiet hours, the order book can remain stable. After a sharp market movement, old quotes can become irrelevant in seconds.
The algorithm must restructure orders based on current volatility and available volume. At the same time, it's necessary to monitor the asset balance: prolonged buying or selling gradually changes the structure of the market maker's position. Therefore, the crypto market making program is more than just a special plan for large traders. This is an infrastructure model in which the exchange sets liquidity requirements, and a professional participant maintains quotes with capital and automated systems. It is this constant work that deepens the order book and makes the trading market more technically resilient to transactions of varying volumes.
